Transportation

The Binghamton City School District contracts with First Student, Inc. and Broome County Transit to provide transportation for approximately 2,500 students to and from public, private and parochial schools and classes for the disabled. School buses are also used for field trips, athletics and music groups.

If you are moving, please bring proof of your new address to the student’s school or to pupil services at 98 Oak Street.  It will generally take two business days to process changes, but it may take longer during the first few weeks of the school year.

Transportation services are a privilege that can be suspended or revoked if actions by the child create a safety hazard or endanger other passengers.

For safety purposes, video cameras have been installed on some of our buses.  This has been found to be an effective way to improve behavior on buses.

Be aware that students will be dropped off at bus stops whether parents are at the bus stop or not.  In the event that you are not at the stop to meet your child when they get off the bus, it is a good idea to have a backup plan and discuss it with your child.

Grades 9-12:

Students needing photos for their I.D. should report to B314.

Eligible students will be provided with their bus pass within the first two weeks of school.

Grades K-8:

The Main Office or Guidance Office of the student’s school building will provide “eligible” students with a bus pass within the first two weeks of school.

If you have moved, please bring proof of address to 98 Oak Street. You will be notified whether the new address qualifies the student as being eligible for busing. (See also Distance Requirements above)

School Bus Behavior

Many of our students ride the bus to and from school each day. The greatest bus safety risk for children is not riding the bus, but approaching and leaving the bus. Please teach children to follow these safety rules for riding the bus:

  • Get to the bus stop at least 5 minutes early.

  • When the bus approaches, stay at least 3 giant steps (6 feet) away from the curb.

  • Wait until the bus stops, the door opens, and the driver says it's OK to board.

  • If you have to cross the street to board, walk alongside the bus at least 5 giant steps (10 feet) before crossing in front of the bus and be sure the driver sees you.

  • Never walk behind the bus.

  • If you drop something near the bus, tell the driver. Don't try to pick it up -- the driver might not see you.

It is also important that students obey the bus rules for behavior. Remind children to stay in their seats, listen to the driver, and follow the rules.

First View App

The First View app allows you to track only your child's school bus. For the First View app to work, you will need to contact either First Student at 607-723-7971 or 607-762-8299 or the BCSD transportation office at 607-762-8118 or 607-762-6313. You will need to ask for your child’s district ID number.

Please note the for-safety reason we can only give this information to the parent/guardian listed on file. To ensure the information is given to the parent of the child. There will be a few questions to answer.

The First View app uses GPS tracking. It will allow you to see if your child’s bus is running on time/late. It will then give you a new estimated time of arrival at your child's stop.

For the bus to run on time we ask you to have your student outside 5 minutes prior to the bus pick-up time. Also, for the bus to stay on time we cannot send the bus back if your child misses the bus.

You can always call us here at First Student if you have any questions

To download the First View app, visit your mobile app store. FirstView is a free download. You will then fill out the needed information and use the security code- CCSD93.
