Nine students at BCSD elementary school students are set to have the opportunity most arts dream of: to have their artwork up in lights for the largest projection arts festival in the United States this September!
The students at Horace Mann, MacArthur, Thomas Jefferson, and Woodrow Wilson Elementary Schools spent their time late in the school year creating art that will transform 84 Court Street into a thriving canvas through the Peg Johnston Living Lights Project at the LUMA Projection Arts Festival (September 5-6 in downtown Binghamton). The Peg Johnston Living Lights Project helps highlight the local art scene, giving adults and kids the chance to let their creativity be put on display to complement the classic architecture of downtown Binghamton.
Each piece of art the students made has the same goal of bringing the building to life, but each student took a different approach to how that goal was carried out -- some focusing on landscape, while others honing in on bright colors to make the building pop. This opportunity to get our artwork represented at LUMA was organized by Jefferson Elementary art teacher Stephanie Rice, who hopes that all seven BCSD elementary schools can participate next year in sending in submissions.
You can view the artwork of each student who will be featured at LUMA below. For more information on the LUMA Projection Arts Festival, go the the LUMA website or follow the festival on Facebook, Instagram, or YouTube.
